What is it?

Lower blepharoplasty corrects under-eye bags, loose skin and the tear trough.

Who is it for?

People bothered by eye bags, dark-looking hollows or loose lower-lid skin.

How is it done?

Done just below the lashes or from inside the lid; fat can be repositioned.

Recovery

Approximate return to work/social life: 7–10 days. This does not mean full recovery or clearance for exercise or flying. Swelling and tissue settling may take longer and are reviewed during follow-up.

What is lower eyelid surgery?

Bags, loose skin and a tired look under the eyes are corrected. Excess fat is removed or repositioned and excess skin is removed.

Procedure and recovery

It is done under general anaesthesia, usually with 1 night in hospital. The incision is made just below the lashes and fades quickly. Dissolvable stitches are used. Return to social life takes about 7–10 days. Upper and lower eyelids can be done in the same session.

Aftercare and follow-up

  • One or two checks are planned before departure according to the return date. A flight report is provided; fitness and timing for travel require medical assessment. Anti-embolism stockings form part of the care plan.
  • Antibiotics, pain relief, stomach protection and antibiotic ointment are used only as prescribed. Dose, application site and duration are individual; do not start treatment independently.
  • Absorbable sutures are used; routine stitch removal is not planned. Scar cream is started after wound closure at the time advised by the surgeon.
  • Artificial tears are used as directed. Combined upper and lower eyelid surgery takes approximately 1–2 hours under general anaesthesia with a one-night stay.
  • General activity plan: gentle walking in week one; light exercise after week two; regular sport after month one; weight lifting after month two. Every stage requires review and surgeon clearance; some procedures need longer restrictions.
