What is it?

Liposuction aims to shape body contours by removing local fat deposits through small incisions with fine cannulas.

Who is it for?

People near their ideal weight with stubborn local fat and good skin quality.

How is it done?

Tumescent fluid is infused; fat is removed through small incisions with fine cannulas.

Recovery

Approximate return to work/social life: 10–14 days. This does not mean full recovery or clearance for exercise or flying. Swelling and tissue settling may take longer and are reviewed during follow-up.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction removes local fat deposits that remain despite diet and exercise through small incisions with fine cannulas, with the aim of shaping body contours. It is not a weight-loss method.

Technique

Op. Dr. Soner Tezcan uses the classic (tumescent) technique for liposuction. In the tumescent technique a special fluid is infiltrated so that fat can be removed more easily and with less bleeding.

Who is it for?

It suits people close to their ideal weight with localised fat and good skin elasticity. The amount of fat removed in one session is kept within safe limits according to your weight and health. Liposuction is not a weight-loss method but a contouring method for stubborn fat.

Surgery and recovery

It is performed under general anaesthesia; duration depends on the number of areas. Patients usually stay 1 night. Return to work takes about 10–14 days and a compression garment is worn for about 4–6 weeks. The first massage session is done in Istanbul at the time the doctor decides. After returning home, patients are asked to continue with 2 sessions a week for 6 weeks. Activity plan: light walks in week 1, light exercise after week 2, normal sport after the first month and weight training after 2 months, each step only after a check-up.

Aftercare and follow-up

  • One or two checks are planned before departure according to the return date. A flight report is provided; fitness and timing for travel require medical assessment. Anti-embolism stockings form part of the care plan.
  • Antibiotics, pain relief, stomach protection and antibiotic ointment are used only as prescribed. Dose, application site and duration are individual; do not start treatment independently.
  • Absorbable sutures are used; routine stitch removal is not planned. Scar cream is started after wound closure at the time advised by the surgeon.
  • Drains are used for lifts and procedures involving liposuction; removal is determined by the surgeon during follow-up.

Frequently asked questions

Will my skin sag after liposuction?

When skin elasticity is good, the skin usually adapts to the new shape. If there is marked excess skin, fat removal alone may not be enough and a lifting procedure is assessed separately.

How much fat can be removed in one session?

Within safe limits, according to your weight and health.

Is massage needed?

Yes. The first session is in Istanbul; then 2 sessions a week for 6 weeks after you return home.

Does liposuction make you lose weight?

No, it is a contouring method for localised fat, not a weight-loss method.
